Let’s face it: exploring the great books of the Western world is fascinating.

But to fully grasp the essence of these literary masterpieces, we need to delve into the lives of those who crafted them. The great authors list below provides the key to understanding these authors’ lives, eras, and impact.

This is no ordinary list. It’s a personal curation project that I began in 2020 and have slowly grown into a list of 349 great authors. I invite you to refer to this list each time you read a new great book of the Western world.

You’ll get a massive head start on every other reader because this great authors list puts each author in the context of the Great Conversation. It helps you trace how each author contributed to, and was influenced by, the ongoing dialogue that shapes literature.
